- Cleveland Browns. Shedeur Sanders gets cornered by coach with hard truth he wasn't ready to hear and it could ruin his rookie year
- Cleveland Browns. Shedeur Sanders is keeping Joe Flacco young with dance challenges
Shedeur Sanders is rolling in the NFL preseason, as the Cleveland Browns rookie is getting to work with his teammates with one goal in mind: make the 53-man final roster.
The other big objective is getting the starting job, but that could be a little more difficult for the Colorado Buffaloes standout in a quarterback room that now features veteran Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett's experience in the NFL and Dillon Gabriel's hunger to make it in the league.
All four will have the chance to compete throughout OTAs and showcase their individual skillsets, as well as their command of the offense. Head coach Kevin Stefanski and the coaching staff will have a full evaluation ahead of them to see who earns the starting job in Week 1 of the 2025 season.
Shedeur has Cleveland excited to see him as the starting QB
The Cleveland Browns are desperate for a quarterback that can lead the franchise to a consistent winning way. That means it's a wide-open competition for the starting job, and one that the fifth-rounder like Shedeur Sanders has a path to winning, according to ESPN's Kimberley A. Martin.
"Listen, in that building, there are people who believe that Shedeur can 100 percent be the starter of this football team," Martin said on ESPN's "Get Up". "You said it's incumbent upon the Browns to put him in the situation, it's also incumbent upon Shedeur to do the work, which, talking to people in that building, they've said he is soaking up everything like a sponge."
And Shedeur's precision and fast throws during OTAs have people wondering about how ready he is to compete with the rest of the NFL. Mac Blank, contributor for Dawg Pound Daily, stated that If the Browns aren't starting Joe Flacco week 1, he'd rather roll the dice with Sanders than trott out Kenny Pickett. "They can lie all they want- we all know what Pickett is, there's a reason he was traded back-to-back seasons," he commented on X.
There's no decision yet about the Browns QB
The good news for Shedeur Sanders is that the Cleveland Browns' coaching staff has not made a final decision on who's going to be the starting quarterback for one of the worst franchises in NFL's history, which means he has a chance to compete for the spot.
Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees said the rotation of the quarterbacks continues to stay fluid during Organized Team Activities (OTAs), as the team works to evaluate and get reps for all four quarterbacks in order to find the man.
"These days we have probably the most reps to go around, so we're able to balance them out," Rees said. "But all those guys have done a nice job coming to work and understanding that each day is going to be a little bit different rotationally. And it's an evaluation process for us still, so we're just working through those as the days come."
